TIPS TO KEEP YOU AND YOUR FAMILY HEALTHY THIS FALL

Fall has officially settled in, which means that we are getting used to cooler, shorter days here in Winter Park. This time of year, while beautiful, is also known for being the season where individuals are more likely to wind up sick. The team at AFM Healthcare wants to ensure that you and your family know what you need to do to prioritize your health and avoid any chance of getting sick.

In today’s blog post, we are going to go over a few things that can help you prioritize wellness and health for you and your family this fall. If you need a flu shot, an annual wellness exam, or you or your child winds up sick and in need of medical care, contact our office and we would be more than happy to get you taken care of.

VITAMIN D

A vitamin that a majority of people are deficient in that also contributes a significant amount to wellness and health is vitamin D. After spending hours in the sun during the warmer months of the year, it’s completely natural for vitamin D levels to drop in the body. Because vitamin D levels are low, it’s very common for people to add in a supplement that helps get their vitamin D levels back to a healthy and normal level.

DRINK PLENTY OF WATER

Another factor that affects our health during these cooler seasons is the amount of water that we are (or aren’t) drinking. During those warm months where we are spending plenty of time outdoors, it’s easy for us to drink large quantities of water without even having to think about it. When it’s cooler outdoors, it’s much easier for us to turn to coffee, tea, hot chocolate, or apple cider. While all of these drinks are delicious, they aren’t doing much for your body, and they most definitely aren’t keeping you hydrated.

PRIORITIZE REST

Sleep is crucial to our health and wellness, which is exactly why you want to make sure that you’re getting plenty of rest and give your body the time it needs to recover from the day. Again, summer can be a time where we are constantly moving and doing things outdoors. While it may not feel like it’s affecting your body at the time, the lack of rest and quality sleep that you’re getting most definitely plays a part in your bodies immune system. So, now that fall has settled in, make sure that you’re getting plenty of rest to build it back up.

STAY ACTIVE

It can be difficult to get out and stay active when temperatures drop, but it’s crucial that you do your best to stay active in one way or another. Physical activity is beneficial for our body in so many ways, but it can feel difficult to do when temperatures are low and you feel confined to the indoors. We suggest getting out and taking advantage of outdoor activities when the weather is warm enough and finding a way to stay active at home throughout the winter season. For some, this may be in the form of an indoor bootcamp, yoga videos, or a stationary bike. Whatever your method of staying active may be, think about this before temperatures get too low for you to head outside and you wind up stuck with nothing to do.

BE KIND TO YOURSELF

The holiday season, and this time of year in general, can be difficult on many people. Whether it’s the time spent with family, weight gain, a cold, or the like, you want to make sure that you stay calm and remain kind with yourself. Every individual is going to experience the occasional weight gain during the holidays, emotional highs and lows, and the lazy days that are brought on by a cold. Turn to people for help when you need it, like the team at AFM Healthcare.
